Tip: make a meal plan for the week so you use up as much as possible of perishable items. For example, if you want to use one capsicum pepper in one dish, buy a multi-pack and plan your other meals that week to include peppers. Saves you money and stops food waste!

Tip: there’s no need to buy a single garlic bulb. It’s cheaper to buy a pack and don’t worry about use by date. Mine sit on top of the microwave and keep well for a long time.

Tip: can’t be bothered crushing garlic all the time or grating ginger? You can use dried garlic or ginger powder. I’d say ½ tsp is more than enough garlic powder for a 4 portion meal and for the ginger, about 1 tsp. This varies between meals of course, so just add to taste.
